Goldenrod

My friends and I have been going to the State Fair for over 30 years. We compared notes some years ago and discovered afterwards we were all hungry after leaving the fair.  Once I stopped at a McD's to pick up a hamburger on the way home after a whole day of pronto pups, cream puffs, corn on the cob, and various stuff-on-a-stick.   So not that surprising that Kathy and I decided to go out to eat after the fair (and after the thunderstorms had abated).  I felt like going out for a really good meal and, since we were staying near Kathy's old stomping grounds, she knew a place.  The Mason Jar was laid back enough that I could wear jeans and t-shirt.  Kathy ordered salmon with lobster rissotto. I ordered a filet.   It arrived done perfectly, topped w/ some colorful microgreens and thinly julienned vegetables.   My meal included garlic mashed potatoes w/ au jus.   Delicious.  The restaurant was fronted by a bakery so I also picked up a chocolate croissant for breakfast.  The next morning I was watching the news as I packed to leave the Big City.  The local commentators were highlighting the new foods at the fair.     Eating is part of the whole fair experience but the fare offered is salty, full of sugar, and pales in comparison to what we had dined on the night before.  Maybe that's why my friends and I all felt famished even after a day of debaucherous eating.
