Hazy Day
A hazy day today. We are in a heat wave - close to 90's. I kinda doubt that much of the rest of the country would agree that this qualifies as hot but then they wear coats when the temp is in the 40's so what do they know? Life is still pretty easy here but summer is beginning to wind down. The bobolinks and red-winged blackbirds have gone. I watched squads of barn swallows come through late this afternoon. I don't know if coming in swarms like that is a hunting technique or they just all get it in their heads to get a snack at the same time. My neighbor Doug says the swallows will be gone within two weeks too. Haven't seen the bluebirds for awhile but they will show up to say bye on their way south. I only need to fill the hummingbird feeders every other day now. Some of the goldfinches will stick around through the winter. Indy and I were on the deck last night when a barred owl called. The sound echoed through the woods. Wonderfully eerie. About time to start looking forward to autumn.

Must be state fair time pretty soon. I remember it could be hot during that time. Is that a hawk on the bale?
Now that you mention it, I haven't seen the red-winged blackbirds at my house recently. -Nancy
Do you get to see many owls in your neck of the woods? If so, what kinds?
