Moonset

As tired as I am of winter, when I drove over to see Aunt June at the Nursing Home this morning I had to admit how beautiful it is here. The snow storm yesterday left everything clean and glistening. With the large expanses of white, any color sticks out: bunches of red willow twigs in the swamps, ocher leaves still hanging from oaks, the lightest tint of blue in the sky, the deep dark green of the spruce in the forest. Everything is quiet and peaceful. Almost asleep. I'm sure I'll be railing about blowing snow or frigid cold again before spring finally arrives but it's days like today that remind me how perfect winters are in the Northwoods.
