Sunrise over a windswept field

Volunteered at the library again this morning. Found DVD's for one of my favorite Sci-Fi TV shows - Red Dwarf. It's a BBC series from the 90's. The beginning of it's premise was the same as a short story I wrote for grade school. All of the crew of a mining ship are killed by a radioactive explosion except for Lister who was in suspended animation and his pregnant cat which was locked in the ship's hold. Three million years later, after the irradiated ship has cooled down, Lister is automatically brought out of stasis. His only companions are a humanoid life form that evolved from the cats in the hold of the ship, the ship's computer, and a hologram of his dead bunk-mate. It was snowing all afternoon so I settled into a stuffed chair and watched most of the first season. You have to admit that when it comes to quirky, the English have a real flair.
