Brent arrived today and was talking about former Olympic events that have since been discontinued. Tug of War and Rope Climb - now these are events I could even understand. Tug of war lasted until 1920, Rope Climbing til 1932. Live Pigeon Shooting - am guessing that the animal rights activists would have a field day if this was still an event. Solo Synchronized Swimming - not as easy as it sounds. Individuals synchronized their movements to music. Swimming Obstacle Race - would guess w/ the rise in shark and alligator attacks this could be quite exciting if still practiced. Horse Long Jump - basically an animal-only event. It ended in 1900 w/ a winner that year at 6.1 meters. Personally, I think we could cut down on the number of current Olympic events.
