Culver's Root

Got word that Aunt June had had a bad night of it. Yesterday, she fell out of bed. I heard she had spent the night in the ER but I figured she would be back at the nursing home by the time I could get over there. I checked in her room. There on the bed were the usual hospital accoutrement but no June. Checked in at the nurse's station. The nurse said while June looked pretty bad, she was in good spirits but didn't know where she had gone. I went looking - not in the main room playing bingo, not in the bird room, not watching TV. Found her at the end of another wing of the home. She and a friend were people watching out the French doors there. I almost didn't recognize her. She has some doozy black & blue marks and stitches on her chin. Still, she took my hand, asked how my day went. She and the other lady laughed at my tales of milking this morning. Was relieved to see she wasn't upset by her mishap and that, despite her appearance, was hale and hearty. Will think of Aunt June next time I get an injury and "suck it up".

Some very precious & invaluable people from that generation! Always putting others ahead of themselves, rarely complaining (even when justified), always a sweet smile & kind word to share. Truly an inspiration & role model.
