Ruby-throated Hummingbird

While the cold snap has broken, it was overcast and rainy most of the day.  I took the opportunity to drive into the village and wash three quilted bedspreads. Fifty quarters later I came home.  Two quilts go into storage to be replaced by thick warmer quilts for winter.  The other goes into a protective covering until Mjolnir has visitors.  (There are still about two new flies daily out there.)

I'm seeing birds again for a short while.  The phoebes, flickers, and yellow-rumped warblers that flew through in the spring are back.  They've stopped off for a rest and insect vittles on their migration south.  Still one hummer flitting around.  Good part of that is she doesn't have to fight for her spot on the feeder anymore.   I mark an "H" on the calendar every day I see her.  This afternoon I watched five turkey vultures circling.  Am hoping they are gathering to fly south too and not watching for something to die.
