The expected snowstorm hit late yesterday afternoon. Got me wondering what people did before weather forecasting? I suppose that was the era of checking groundhog shadows and measuring the width of a wooly bear caterpillar stripes. I'd let the instinctual need to stock up on food take me over and stopped off for a few groceries as one of my errands yesterday. Lots of people were coming out of the grocery store w/ bouquets of flowers. I was amazed. The outside temp was 18 degrees F but none of the flowers were wrapped. I knew it was Valentines and I assume the store was having a sale. (When I got inside the price was marked $24 - not that much of a sale.) Sure after a cold snap it felt pretty warm to Northwood natives - most people didn't bother to zip up their coats all the way nor wear caps. Sure cut flowers are often kept in flower stores in coolers but not at freezing temps! It takes a few minutes to walk to your car and, as we all know, it takes a bit of time for the interior of the car to warm up. I'm guessing those flowers are no longer looking as pert today. Ah, but it's also no longer Valentines.
