First flower of the year

The Town Planning Commission met tonight.  We recommended two building permits to the Town Board.  One was rebuilding a garage that had burned down and the other was building a shed in the middle of an 11 acre plot.  Then we started going over the Town Road Protection Ordinance.  That's the one we copied from an existing one the Town of LaFayette had.  The Town Board has agreed that is what they are looking for and now we just have to go over it to make sure it fulfills all of our conditions.  Ran into a problem in Section 5 where the Town of LaFayette requires permits for any vehicle over 16,000 lbs.  Garbage trucks would all need permits in that case.  The Board would like that.  However, logging trucks, liquid manure haulers, and feed trucks would also be over the limit.  Our roads are built to carry 80,000 lbs but the state has exemptions for farm equipment up to 92,000 lbs.  Not sure what goes on in the Town of LaFayette but we will have to rework those numbers to fit our requirements.  Tabled that section until the next meeting.  Section 6 covers the Town's actions in granting a permit.  It requires the Town Board to respond to a permit request within 45 days after receiving it.  Some on the committee felt w/ the amount of work required to research a permit and the amount of people available to do the work, we should change that to 60 days.  I said it had to be shortened to 14 days.   No one in this neck of the woods is going to wait 2 months for a permit to be OK'd.  So that section needs work too.  Should have everything straightened out w/ the ordinance before the road bans go on next spring.
