Thought at first it was a dog howling in pain. Stopped walking and listened. No. There was more than one dog and it sounded like the bay of hounds. Must be someone hunting coyotes with dogs. Seemed close but it's hard to tell direction and distance of sound from on top of the ridge. Seemed to me that the sound was moving fast. Coyotes are probably following my neighbor's trails near the creek bottoms. I checked on Whip. She heard them too but stayed close and only growled. Much later, Whip jumped onto the window seat and began barking. I looked at Blitz who had been sound asleep next to the computer. She was alert and looking out toward the window too. So I turned off all of the noise and lights in the house and joined Whip at the window. Couldn't see anything in the dark but did hear a lone coyote's long drawn out howl. The hounds must have been picked up and now the coyote pack was reforming. Realized I'd made up that whole scenerio from just the sounds I'd heard. What do you suppose that's called? A 'soundstory'?
