Barn Quilt

More snow than forecast.  According to my walking stick this morning, we got a good foot of snow.  The biggest snowfall all winter on the morning I needed to be somewhere.  The Public Test of the voting machine had been announced in the paper to occur at 10 this morning.   The other Chief Inspector Barb had called last night to say she was already snowed in.  I'd called Anita who said she would come w/ me for the test and I also called the Town Chairman to make sure he would have someone plow the town hall parking.  This morning I waited until 9:30.  None of us were plowed out.  Schools and even some businesses didn't open.   Called the Town Clerk (who is in charge of elections).  Suggested that we postpone the Public Test until Wednesday.  She agreed and said she would check w/ the County Clerk to make sure we were doing everything correctly.  The County clerk's assistant answered the phone.  The assistant berated our town as wimps since other towns had made it out to do their public test.  (The assistant is a bit pompous.)  Our town clerk asked to speak w/ the County Clerk.  The County Clerk said she fully understood and as long as we followed the state directive of posting the change at the standard three locales 24 hours in advance, we were good.  The Town Clerk let me know what had transpired and said her husband could get the notices posted in the afternoon.  I called Barb who said she should be plowed out by Wednesday.  I called Anita and told her she wouldn't have to worry about the Public Test.  Finally called the Town Chairman to say we wouldn't be doing the test until Wednesday.  He claimed he personally had plowed the town hall parking lot that morning and I owed him.  I'm sure he'll bring it up the next time he wants someone on a committee.  Funny thing is, on the one day this whole winter when I could have used the plow guy, he never did show.
