Whip
I closed up the library as quickly as I could and drove over to the town hall. I was curious how the board would take the planning commission's rejection of a town sanitary district and also wanted to check in with the town clerk. She had e-mailed me some questions which I'd answered but hadn't received a return response from her. The meeting was already in progress when I got there. When they got to the planning commission's report the head of the commission gave a reasoned explanation of why we rejected the idea of taking over responsibility for the wells and sewers in the area. If it was me I would have just said this was one of the stupidest ideas the town board had ever proposed. (Probably should work on my people skills.) Everything else the board went through was pro forma until they got to the subject of roads. Supervisor Dennis said he had put out the road ban signs. Road bans go on when the frost begins to go out of the ground in the spring. The roads become spongy and the town limits heavy trucks from using them until the frost is gone and the road bed stiffens. This limit will affect most cattle trucks, machinery trucks, logging trucks, and garbage trucks. It's the last one that people notice because their garbage isn't picked up for the approximately six weeks the bans are on. I don't remember bans ever going on this early so expect lots of people will be surprised/upset. Must admit, I usually learn something interesting at town board meetings. Talked to the clerk afterwards and found that she hadn't received my e-mails. They may be going to her spam file. Such is life.
