This faux winter that the Northwoods is experiencing got me to thinking about misnamed things. As I've said before, I've got a problem w/ all of the 'milk' products in the grocery store which contain no milk. They are basically made by soaking the product in water and then filtering out solids. So called soy milk would better be known as soy tea or soy juice or maybe plmilk (for 'plant milk'). In the same vein, peanut butter contains no butter. It's just crushed and mushed peanuts. Actually I'm OK w/ putting 'mushed peanuts' on the grocery list. Everyone I know realizes there is no 'ham' in a hamburger. Assume the name came from where the first one was made. Don't think anyone would be confused if we started just calling them 'beef burgers'. When you think about it, there are quite a few misnomers. Fireflys are beetles. A horned toad is a lizard. Starfish aren't fish. Catgut has never come from cats but from sheep. A light-year is a measure of distance not time and after the facts that came to light in the Dominion lawsuit of Fox News, it rightly should be called Fox Propaganda.
