Jigsaw Puzzle

I woke up from a dream where a wall of the old farmstead fell down and revealed lots of additional rooms filled w/ old things like children's snowsuits, boots, ropes, bowls, etc.  Once I was awake decided maybe my subconcious thought I should work harder on using or getting rid of things that haven't been touched in quite awhile around the house.  Today I grabbed my '2011' box of receipts and forms.  Time to empty it so I can convert the box over to be my new '2024' box of receipts and forms.  I was listening to a tax consultant taking call-in questions on Public Radio.  One person asked how many years tax receipts should be retained and the consultant replied, "Forever - let your kids throw them away."  That did not seem in keeping w/ the 'Swedish Death Cleaning' philosophy.  I pulled up the Internal Revenue on-line site.  That said to keep tax receipts 3 years in most cases but up to 7 years if you claim a loss on worthless securities/bad debt.   The site did suggest keeping records indefinately if you don't file a return or you file a fradulent return.  Figured I was pretty safe in tossing all my records from 13 years ago plus hopefully it will help me sleep better tonight.
