Thanksgiving Dinner - Phase I

Figured out my Thanksgiving menu.  A bit unconventional but I think it will be tasty.  Trouble is I can't possibly eat it it all at one sitting and be comfortable afterward.  So decided to eat it over the span of a few days.  Today is the soup course - French Onion.  I'd watched an episode of Julia Child's cooking show and she had a tip to make the cooking process for this dish go faster.  Usually I substitute Swiss cheese for the suggested Gruyere but found a nearby cheese factory that makes Gruyere and they sell it at a shop downtown.  Picked up a ready-to-bake baguette.   (I'm not up to making baguettes from scratch yet). It all worked well and the house smelled wonderful.  Turns out I prefer Swiss to the Gruyere.  Anyway, delicious and I'm looking forward to tomorrow's next course - Tossed Salad with fresh fruit skewers.

I love French Onion soup! But you're right, it normally takes too long to make.
