My Halloween Christmas cactus

The mum I had sitting by the front door was now much more brown  than gold.  I decided to dump it in the barrel I keep in Sleipnir for old dirt.  Yes, I know the term 'old dirt' sounds odd.  The 'old dirt' comes out of pots after a year.   In the spring I'll dump it on the garden.  I also have a container for 'new dirt' which is composted potting soil.  When I went to upend the mum into my 'old dirt' container I saw there were chives and parsley plants growing.  I'd thrown them in there a month before when I cleaned out the herb planter.   They actually looked pretty good - much better than when I'd thrown them in there originally.  So I checked my shelf for small pots, fished out two, planted the parsley and the chives in 'new dirt' and set them among the geraniums on the benches.  I'll give them a chance and see how they look come spring.  Dumped the mum unceremoniously in the 'old dirt' container and placed it's pot up on the shelf.  If that mum starts growing again, I might do the same for it.
