Basswoods and Walnuts
I chipped a tooth on the 15th. Couldn't get into my dentist until this week. Fortunately, it didn't hurt. Unfortunately, more pieces came out as the week progressed. I have been going to this dentist for a few years now but only have seen him when he occasionally comes in after a cleaning and makes a perfunctory check to deem everything OK. His assistant introduced herself and said she was new to the office (young - relatively new to the profession too?) The doc came in. He started by making small talk. "I dated a girl in high school named Susan Mayer." he said as he looked at x-rays. "Wasn't me." was my quick reply. "No, you would have been a senior when I was a freshman!" Laughter, cute for him to suggest I was that young. "A guy working for me and I were horrified when we realized we had attended the same college at the same time." I commented by way of small talk. "Why?" asked the assistant. "We might have dated." I said. "Wouldn't you have known if you dated him?" the assistant queried. The doc told me to open wide. "College in the 60's? Everything was fuzzy." He told her. Now the dentist was making me older than I am. Plus I don't think he was referring to the theory of quantum entanglements which had just been proposed. Quick subject change to the condition of the tooth. The cap on a molar had broken partially off. Unusual. Not many options except to grind off the rest of it, make a new one, and glue it in place. Two more appointments and I'll be back to chewing on both sides of my mouth.
