Whitetail Deer

Before sunset, Whip and I jumped into Jormungandr and took off to do some tasks out in the field.  Everytime I stopped she would get out also so she could check out the area.  We ended up down by the gravel pit and I decided to see if I could take Neighbor Blake's trail through the swamp.  I'd tried a couple of times earlier in the year but then it was still blocked by trees downed in last December's ice storm.  This time, going slow, we were able to make it through.  Looked different w/ many of the white birch still bent double and pines which had lost their tops.  He'd filled in some washed out areas w/ gravel.  Stopped for a deer.  There is a reason you can't shoot deer from a vehicle.  The doe just stood her ground curious to figure out what Jormungandr was.  Even after Whip started barking and she bounced off, I noticed her watching us from the safety of the wood.  Once we crossed over onto my trail the going was pretty good.  Brothers Phil and Brent had cleared part of it and Neighbor Bill had done a portion also.  Now that I know we can make it through, we'll go walking on that trail.  Next time it will be earlier in the day though.   Just before nightfall isn't the best time to be walking the swamps.
