Whip was sitting on the deck when I heard her warning bark. I went to the window and saw a turkey tussling w/ a coyote on the path to the woods. I rushed out onto the deck. The turkey and coyote fight was their own business but I didn't want Whip tangling with a coyote. Fortunately she reacted perfectly. She continued to bark but stayed w/ me. I don't need my dog chasing things. I do want my dog to stay near me so we look formidable as a pack. The coyote stopped his attack and the turkey went squawking off into the tall grass. Coyote didn't want to give up his prize but he also was unsure of Whip and I together. To bolster our facade of dominance, I barked a little too. The coyote decided discretion was the better part of valor (to be honest, coyotes probably don't read a great deal of Shakespeare) and took off for the safety of the deep wood. The turkey didn't do so well. Whip and I went out for a walk in the afternoon and she took off into the tall grass near where the tussle happened. Came back w/ the carcass of a poult. I'm guessing it's the same one the coyote went for and it succumbed to those injuries.
