Sunrise on Snow

The snow forecast to come overnight hadn't yet arrived by our morning constitutional.  Whip found out she could walk along the ridge of the snow piled up along the driveway.  This made her as tall as me and she could see out over the snow covered fields.  Too much temptation for a cabin-fevered dog and she took off.  I let her go for awhile but when she turned in the direction of the highway and didn't respond to my whistle I needed to take action.  Went back to the house, backed out the car and drove it up by the outbuildings.  No dog can resist a car ride so she was racing down the driveway toward me before I got out of the car.  She didn't get her ride but I left the car out.  Around 9 the snow started.  The car was already out so I drove downtown to post some bills and pick up my mail.  Not one of my better ideas.  The white snowflakes blended in w/ the snow covered road, snow filled ditches, and snowy flat fields.  Good thing most of the way has power and telephone poles on either side of the road - just drove inbetween them and went slow.  When I got home though there was a message waiting from the garbage company.  Because of the weather they wouldn't be picking up this week.  Same thing they said last week.  Same thing they said twice before that this season.  While I don't want their crews driving on unsafe roads, I would think they could still pick up my garbage later this week.   Am sorry now that one of those bills I drove into town to mail this morning was theirs.
