Staghorn Sumac on a foggy morning

Woke up to flashes of lightning and the rumble of thunder.  Then the rain started.  It was falling so hard I thought it might be hailing.  Blitz didn't stir so I let the noise lure me back to sleep.   Today it's a mix of sun and clouds.   Tonight we will get more rain. Autumn rains are great. Actually, I hate w/ a passion getting caught out in a cold rain (which in autumn they inevitably are) but I know that this is the moisture that the plants will need to get going next spring.  Sure we'll get snow during the winter but that all sloughs off into the swamps, lakes, and rivers before the ground can unfreeze enough to soak it up.   I was reading an article about popular retirement spots.   One of the desirable criteria was the high number of sunny days per year.  I thought about that.  Seems to me all of those sunny days in a row would be rather boring.   Of  course, if you're retired, maybe boring is what you are going for.
