Smelling the 'flowers'
The day after the election. I showered and ate breakfast. Then drove to the school. Our town clerk had delivered the ballots and accompaning paperwork to the County Clerk's office the night of the election. However, the school (who wanted the paperwork on the vote for school board members) doesn't stick around that late so I took their election paperwork in this morning. They want a list of everyone who voted so I brought along our poll book. I have no idea why they want that info but it's up to them to copy our poll book and return it. Must be great copier - it took only a few minutes. Then I bopped down to the village library. I'd gotten a text that the weekly Coffee and Conversation was starting up again. Didn't have a lot of time this morning but wanted to lend my support by stopping in and saying Hi. We 'sign in' everytime we meet and I noticed our last meeting had been in the fall of 2019 - it's been awhile. After hearing some stories and a 'nosh' I walked through the building to the Village Hall. I wanted to talk to the clerk there about the circumstances around the absentee ballot we had sent down to them. I liked her pragmatic view and will do the same if it ever happens in our town. I got a call from our town clerk that we had forgotten to return our tabulator 'key' w/ the paperwork to the county. So I drove back to the town hall, dropped off the poll book on her desk and picked up the 'key'. Drove over to the County Clerk's office, dropped it off w/ her assistant and verified that they had all of our election documentation now. It was close to lunch so picked up a sandwich and drove back to the town hall. We were all exhausted after a long election day so had left the tables, chairs, and screens still set up as needed for the election. I took down the two extra tables and stored them away, moved the other two tables into the usual town board meeting 'L" shape. Set up 8 chairs for audience members. Put away the plexiglass screens for the next election. One last look around and check that the doors were locked. Left the town clerk's keys. I won't need them again until August.
