Non-partisan Election today. On the ballot were judges, county supervisors, and school board members. In our town everyone was unopposed. After the last census the county had carved our town into three wards and since county supervisors were on the ballot that meant we had three types of ballots - one for each ward. The poll books noted which ward each voter was in but the county clerk tried to make it even easier on us by putting the color of the ballot above each voter's name. A nice thought but somewhere along the line the colors got messed up so the people w/ "white" above their name got the gold ballot and vice versa (the blue people were OK). We realized this right away and ignored the color denoted and went w/ the number of the ward that was printed. Next issue was someone wanted to bring in their mother's absentee ballot. New legislation in the state said no one could do that anymore. I looked at the absentee envelope. While the voter who brought in the ballot lives in our town, her mother lived in a nearby village. I called up the village and had the voter explain about the absentee ballot. The clerk there said they would accept her mother's absentee ballot. So after voting, I sent her on down to the village hall. Finally there is the new write-in rule. We had two situations and I called the county clerk for verification of the rule. She must have had a long day because she said our town had three poll workers and it was up to us to determine intent. So we did. I wrote everything that we decided in the Inspector's Report. I think every legislator who makes up these inane election laws should be either boiled in oil -or- be required to be a poll worker.
