These are all redpolls. I'm not sure where the goldfinches have gone. I listened to some talks by birders and they made it sound like the bunch of birds that come to your feeders aren't necessarily the same ones over the span as small as a week. I do know that the group this morning acted differently than past groups. Sure they really like sunflower hearts and thistle seeds like before. However this flock was also going for ground corn and the woodpecker suet block - both of which the little birds had eschewed before. I'd like to test out the theory that flocks change periodically but short of paintballing a couple of them orange, I don't know how.

It could also be that there diet changes as Spring approaches. See this in other creatures.
