Tree Sparrows

Autumn is slowly closing in on Winter.  Mrs. Rabbit has returned from her summer home in the meadow to her winter home under the deck.  She was there at my front door greeting Whip and me as we stepped out on our morning constitutional.  I said hello but Whip practically pulled me off my feet trying to give chase.  Later in the morning we went outside again for a longer walk.  There was a flock of birds following us in through the trees.  Couldn't get a close shot but I think they were tree sparrows which have arrived here to overwinter.  Believe it or not, the Northwoods is more hospitable in winter than where they breed in summer.  Tonight as Whip and I went out for our final constitutional I saw the ski hill lights on for the first time this season.  The owners don't start making snow until they are pretty sure we are in for a long stretch of freezing temps.  Yes, winter is just around the corner ... and I still found a tick on me tonight!
