Sewer Sucker
My state dictates that private septic tanks be pumped out when 1/3 of their volume is solids. Realizing no one would (plus it would be dangerous if they did) stick their head into a septic tank to check the level of their 'stuff', the state periodically mails a card to each private sewer owner suggesting their system should be serviced. My card arrived in June to remind me that it had been four years since the last pumping but I put off calling the sanitary company until now. Jerry - the sewer sucker who had come last time - had also cleaned out my sewer filter. When the card arrived I'd already done the spring clean of the filter but I figured if I waited until September, Jerry might do my fall cleaning. Today he was due and I had prep to finish. I removed the metal bunny statues sitting atop each of the concrete hole covers. Then I removed the chains that lock the covers down. I easily removed two of the chains but the third was really tight. How did that happen? Remembered that in 2019 Mjolnir's septic system was built to empty into my existing system. When the plumber did all of that work, he was the one who had put the lock on the cover he had to remove. Struggled w/ the key for awhile but it finally popped open. Then it was just a matter of hanging the water hose in a prominant and conveniently located spot. Jerry arrived an hour later. Pumping a septic tank doesn't take long. Jerry moved the concrete cover to the side and began the process. I went inside filled out the check and had it ready for him by the time he was pulling the truck back onto the driveway. He smiled down at me and said, "It looks like crap in there." "Professional joke?" I responded. "Most people ask how their sewer insides look so that's my usual answer." He laughed. While I wondered why anyone would want to know what their sewage looked like, he talked on about how my septic tank and the levels inside appeared normal. He mentioned that he also cleaned the filter. YES!
