Round Bales

Thunderstorm came through last night.  The news had been warning that it could be a doozy.  I checked around outside to make sure everything was secure and took the tops off the rain barrels.  The dog spends a couple of hours every night inside w/ me (the cats make themselves scarce) but I could see around 7:45 p.m. that the anticipated storm was coming in fast.   Decided to take her out for our constitutional an hour ahead of time.   Lightening strikes were already coming fast.  I counted between seeing the light and hearing the boom -   they were only a few miles away.  Whip is usually nonchalant about thunderstorms but she did her 'business' quickly and seemed happy when I turned back toward the house earlier than usual.  I settled her in for the night and at 8 p.m. the storm hit.  At the end of my driveway I could see red flashing lights.  It's a fav spot of police checking for signs of forming tornados.  The pelting sheet of rain would turn the motion detectors on Mjolnir and Sleipnir on.  The power flickered twice but stayed on.  Excellent time to make fatayers!   Cousin Dawn had brought this Lebanese version of meat pasties for the 4th of July get-together and sent me the recipe.  I cooked the hamburger w/ onion.   Used my pastry rolling pin to flatten out individual biscuits-in-a-tube.  Put a little dollop of hamburger, hashbrowns, and chedder cheese concoction in the middle of the biscuit, folded it up, and, when I had a panful, popped them in the oven.  A few unfolded as they baked and I maybe went a little heavy on the garlic but still a good effort for my first try.  By the time I finished, the storm had finished too.
