New Year's Day - probably not a good idea when some people have been up most of the night toasting in the new year.
Martin Luther King Jr. Day - a possibility but we just got it not that long ago. It would be a shame to let it go so soon.
President's Day - definitely could remove this one. I appreciate everything the early presidents did for this country. However, the last president left a bad taste.
Memorial Day - this is one of my favorite holidays and people use it as the official beginning of higher seasonal rates in hotels. Gotta keep this one.
Independence Day - if we got rid of this one, when would my brother Brent shoot off fireworks?
Labor Day - need it as a marker for the end of vacation season.
Columbus Day - definitely could remove this one too. Columbus wasn't the first European to come to the U.S. and he didn't do the people already here any favors.
Veterans Day - best to keep it as a yearly reminder of the cost of war.
Thanksgiving and Christmas - with all of the traditions built into both of these holidays, there is no way people would want to get rid of either.

Yes! I concur with your opinion on getting rid of President's Day and/or Columbus Day.
