Serviceberry (I think)

One tree stood out.  It was in full bloom w/ white blossoms.  The plums, apples, and crabapple trees have blossoms on them too but they aren't near opening yet.  So I'm thinking this is a serviceberry tree but it could be another variety of plum or apple that blooms earlier than the rest.  I'll do my trick of marking it w/ colored tape and watching it through the summer.  Will be able to tell what it is when it puts on fruit.  It's not the only tree w/ tape.  There is the dreaded pink tape I use to mark buckthorn trees in the fall.  I went past three of them on the walk today.  One tree had died but even so I left the pink tape.  I will check around the dead tree for another year to see if any little sprouts come up.  I had broken the limbs of the other two marked trees last fall but I saw they were putting up new limbs so broke those also.  It takes a couple of years before a buckthorn will die this way.  Tape is easy to carry and easy to spot but eventually I may have a color-coded woodlot.
