Crabapple buds

I woke up a little after 4 a.m.   It was already getting pretty light out.  Blitz was asleep at my side.   Between not wanting to wake her up and how comfy the bed felt I wasn't seeing any big need to get up quite yet.  Then Blitz raised her head looked toward the open bedroom door and gave a deep throaty growl.  She saves that sound for the dog and people she doesn't know.   I knew Whip was asleep in the foyer and doubted anyone would be coming around at that time of the morning.  Still that's when I should have gotten up and checked on what might be going on.  Instead I turned over and went back to sleep.  Didn't notice anything abnormal until I went out on the deck to fill the bird feeders.  The suet feeder, which had been full last night, was empty.  It's door had been wrenched off it's metal hinges and lay on the ground.  There were chips of suet laying around.  The shepherds hook the feeder hung from was now tipped at a severe angle.  My first thought was a bear but the damage didn't seem destructive enough for a bear.  My next guess was a coon.    My neighbor has complained about some coon around his place lately.  Could be a skunk I suppose - there was that certain odor in the wind this morning  - but I doubt that a skunk would have the dexterity or strength to take the feeder door clean off.   Whatever messed w/ the feeder, the take-away lesson is to always listen to your pets.

Still think it was a bear - they like to mess around with your shepherd's hooks. Good thing you have a watch kitty.
