In the U.S. doctors stopped vaccinating for small pox in 1972 after the disease was eradicated here. Vaccination campaigns in the rest of the world eliminated the disease from everywhere else by 1975. Thanks to a push to vaccinate for polio America hasn't had a case since 1979 (though we have had cases brought in by travelers from unvaccinated countries). I remember my parents taking all of us kids to the school gym one Sunday. The whole neighborhood seemed to be there for a mass vaccination for polio. I don't remember anyone complaining vaccinations were a bad thing... or unnecessary ... or political. I do remember the people lined up seemed relieved to have a vaccine that would keep their families safe from a fearful disease.

Michael and I were both elated to get our Covid-19 vaccines and as soon as Ian is deemed old enough, he'll get his shot as well. One more step to getting back to normal!
