There are multiple 'games' that I and the dog play on the morning and evening constitutionals. One is to listen for sounds. We heard a lone coyote doing a half-hearted call this morning. Assume he or part of his pack got separated and with the morning coming they are looking to reconnect. This time of year, dawn is still too far away to hear birds but sometimes owls will call. Then we heard a cow. No. Can't be a cow, it's in the direction of the swamp. It's true that sounds can bounce around but it didn't seem so. I've heard deer before but it didn't sound like them either. The state is repopulating elk nearby. A hunter mistakenly killed an elk during deer hunting season. (Buck fever will make you shoot before being certain of what you are shooting at.) Will have to check on-line for elk calls and find out if that's what I heard.
