Deer Bed

Started snowing this afternoon.   Don't think it will be enough to require plowing yet.  After the last snow storm the dog and I cut across the edge of a field and I was surprised to find a bunch of deer beds.  They were atop of a hill.  They faced out toward the open field but their backs were up against the fence line where the forest and tall grasses would have protected them from the north winds during the night.  The deer didn't exactly bed down together either.  They were all in a line but each about 20 feet apart.  I'm sure there is a logic to it all.  Part of it is probably watching for predators and having a quick get-away route if one is spotted.  I've often found deer beds on top of hills in the winter time which I think has something to do w/ calm cold air settling down in the low lying areas.  Not sure if I understand it all but fun to try and figure it out.
