Memorial Weekend

6 a.m.  The dog and I had been up for awhile already.  Had washed sheets and hung them on the line (there is rain forecast later in the day and I wanted to see if I could get them dry on the line before it came.)  I filled up some bottles w/ water, opened up the back hatch of the car and started moving flowers into it.  The cemetery opens at daylight but there was only one other car there when I arrived.  First there were pink geraniums for my niece's grave.  Then blue salvia and red geraniums for my brother's.  Purple and white geraniums for my parent's.  Since their headstone can be seen from the road and I had extra, I put violet geraniums on the road side.  Furthest out from where I parked is my grandparent's and they got red geraniums w/ white alyssum.  Sixty years ago the night before Memorial Day weekend, I'd 'help' my grandmother cut flowers from her garden.  I don't know how she had flowers this early in the growing season but she always had a pretty assortment.  Early the next morning my grandfather would take me to town w/ him to put the flowers out on the graves.  This morning I stepped back to see how the potted flowers looked.  Think grandma would be pleased.
