A stack of absentees

Up until 5 p.m. on Monday we weren't sure if there would be an election today or not.  For weeks the governor had been asking for the election to be postponed but the state legislature was adamant there had to be an election today.  The state elections board did what they could for us.  They supplied each polling place w/ boxes of cleaning supplies, gloves, and masks. The poll workers did their best to keep things clean.  One person watched for voters coming and opened the door for them.  They directed them to the bathroom first to wash their hands.  The voter then came to the registration table and placed their ID on the table in front of the poll workers and stepped back.  When their name was found in the poll book they were given a pen to sign the book and told they could keep the pen.  Those using the voting machine were given a fresh Q-tip.  I was skeptical that Q-tips would work on the touch screen but no one had any issue w/ using them.  People wanting paper ballots were directed to the voting booths to mark their ballot w/ the pen they were given.  In between times, other poll workers wiped down the voting booths and front table w/ antiseptic wipes and/or processed the absentee ballots.  As I said, all the poll workers did their best to not allow anything to spread.  Still ... I can't be sure we were successful.

If nothing else, poll workers probably cut down on the amount of colds and regular flu viruses being spread.
