This is the first U.S. 'Love' stamp which was introduced on January 26, 1973. After this initial entry the U.S. postal service has sporadically created other Valentine themed stamps which show the gradual changes in our nation's design tastes and culture. This stamp was created by pop-artist Robert Indiana (a/k/a Robert Clark). It was extremely popular w/ 300 million stamps printed. Scott # 1475.
