1999 - Insects and Spiders
This colorful stamp was first released on October 1, 1999 (in time to be a subtly 'creepy' stamp for one's Halloween cards) in Indianapolis, Indiana. A sheet consists of 20 different stamps featuring 16 insects and 4 spider species. The use of shadowing and allowing a foot or antenna to extend beyond the rectangle of their stamp gives the animals a 3-D effect. On the back of each individual stamp (sometimes described as the 'licky' part of the stamp) is a description of the bug pictured on the front. A little education to take one's mind off the bill being paid? There were 84.7 million printed. Scott # 3351
