1980 - Letter Writing

Stamps created to celebrate National Letter Writing Week which was February 24th through March 1st, 1980.  From what I can tell there still is a Letter Writing Week but it is now called Universal Letter Writing Week and is held the second week of January (just in time to be sending all of those Thank You's for Christmas?).  This pane of stamps was unique in it's three sets of vertically paired stamps.  They remind us that writing preserves memories (though if cursive is no longer taught it may be necessary to have older letters interpreted); that a letter can lift a person's spirits; and is a way to communicate w/ your elected officials (though my senator is so intent on walking lock-step w/ his political party that he just thanks me for my interest and then asks for money).   First day of issue was Washington D. C.   Scott # 1805-1810
