These stamps were part of an American Folk Art Series. They celebrate the pottery sills of the Pueblo Indians of Arizona and New Mexico. While the Hopi continue to create pottery, the designs shown here are from the period of 1880-1920. First day of issue was April 13, 1977 in Santa Fe, New Mexico. 49 million stamps were printed.
