1980 - Pacific Northwest Indian Masks

This is another issue in the American Folk Art series of stamps.  They feature the cedar wood masks crafted by the Bella Coola (Nuxalk), the Heiltsuk (Bella Bella), the Tlingit, and the Chilkat Tlingit.  These Native American tribes are located mostly in current British Columbia.  They were excellent carpenters and carvers also crafting long houses, canoes, and totem poles.  The first day of issue was September 25, 1980 in Spokane, Washington.  152 million were printed.  Scott # 1834-37
