Sedum and Snow
Cold enough to make chili. I got out the crockpot and started my first batch this morning - diced tomatoes, chili beans, green peppers, onions, hamburger, chili and cumin powder. Some hours later I sat down at the table to eat a bowl topped w/ chips, Cheddar cheese, sour cream, and lettuce. Watched a pair of does carefully pick their way across my lawn - a little surprised to see them out in broad daylight but bow hunting season has begun and they may have been disturbed from their usual patterns. After they passed I saw the tall grass move at the edge of the lawn. A rabbit hopped out and crossed to another rabbit I hadn't noticed. Suppose they have moved into their winter home under the deck. The female harrier passed the window, head down, searching for voles, following the contour of the land. A pretty day. Friend Kathy e-mailed that it was 60 degrees where she lives. That will sound much more tempting next February when the temps here are sub-zero, the snow drifts are up to the door handles, and I'm sick of chili.
