Lunar Eclipse

Newscasters dubbed it the Super Blood Wolf Moon. They claimed the term Wolf was what Native
Americans called the first full moon after the winter solstice with the colorful explanation that this time of year hungry wolves would howl at the moon. Seemed odd that a wolf looking for prey would give away it's location like that but I let it pass. Names for the full moon vary among the indigenous peoples and I went looking to see which one specifically calls it Wolf Moon. The news articles pointed to the Farmer's Almanac as their source for the name and the Farmer's Almanac claimed it was an Algonquin term for the January full moon. However, couldn't find any Algonquin web site that agreed w/ them. In fact I couldn't find any Native American website that calls it Wolf Moon (though the Sioux term is Wolves-Run-Together Moon). It's Great-Spirits Moon to the Chippewa and Ojibwa of the Northwoods. As my brother pointed out there are many different native tribes so maybe there is one that refers to it as the Wolf Moon. Personally I kinda like the Kalapuya name - Stay-Inside Moon.
