Jewelweed (Impatiens capensis)

Jewelweed is blooming in the swamps and even some not-so-wet areas.  There are two types of jewelweed that I've found here - spotted and pale.  Both of these are pictures of the spotted type but two different color variations.  At least that's what I think is going on.    Here is a plant adapted to hummingbirds but other pollinators will visit it too.

It rained off and on all afternoon yesterday and the national news had my state centered on their screen this morning as an area where they expected dangerous storms today.  As is often the case, the meteorologist mentioned the state to the west of us where the storms are coming through, the state to the northeast of us where a high was turning the storms, and the state to the south of us where the storms would end up on Monday.  My state was never mentioned.  I've noticed this since I was a kid.  Can only assume in 'television college' they warn telecaster's to avoid saying certain words which are difficult to pronounce and my state's name is one of them.
