Morning view from the deck
Yesterday I mowed the lawn and trails. Hadn't done it since my brother Brent left. Gave up one trail in favor of the new one he made. The old trail chugged up the edge of a field which was OK but I still have a path along the opposite side of that field. The new path winds through the tall grass and eventually ends up at the same place as the old trail. New trails aren't very pretty. They have a lot of big plant stems that have been sheared off and areas of dead vegetation or even bare ground. Soon however new plants begin to grow and, provided you continue to mow them, they become carpeted w/ soft green tender plants that the deer prefer. Paths make it possible for me to walk to places that by this time of year would be impassable due to thick plant growth and unseen uneven ground. If I take a path in the early morning I don't come back drenched from the dew. Plus I see my neighbors also using my trails - deer, turkey, rabbits, butterflies, and the occasional bear.
