Cars

I don't know what kind of cars these are but it's interesting to see how chassis have changed.  That's Irene and Neil Mayer leaning on their car in the late 30's or early 40's.   The bottom picture of Herbert, Walter, and Neil was taken about the same time so it might be the same car.  Lyman Schwartz standing nearest the car outside of his mechanics business and Walter Mayer is holding the pipe wrench.  Back of the photo says 'Fall 1934 Mechanic and Mechanicess'.  Irene Kurtz worked as a maid in Winnetka, Illinois so would guess that is where the bottom picture was taken (again in the late 30's or early 40's.

A friend showed me a picture of steps fastened to the wall for cats to climb up to sleeping areas.  I thought I could change around the book shelves in the study to make something similar.  The kittens were jumping over to the shelves and knocking down books regularly anyway.  I cleaned off three levels - some books I boxed for the library and some I moved to the bookcase in the bedroom.  I put soft towels for the kittens to sleep on two levels.  They ignored the shelves.  I placed the kittens on the top shelves. They jumped down and wouldn't go back.  Every time the kittens laid down for a nap I moved them back to the shelves.  They immediately left.  I tried toys, treats, and enclosed sleeping beds on the shelves.  The kittens positively eschewed them.  Not a total loss - have three clean shelves now.
