Last of the Elderberries
In order to tire the kittens out a bit I devised another toy for them. I took the clothes basket and placed it upside down on the floor. I've put the basket over them before and while they enjoy that for awhile they soon grow tired of it and just push it off. Today I put some toys under the basket and left the kittens on the outside. The basket has 20 paw-sized holes on each of it's four sides and two generous handholds. I placed a egg-shaped toy full of rice, a hard shiny ball, a fluffy catnip mouse, and a rubber snake. They pawed, moved the basket around the room, jumped on and over it until they finally sprawled out on a stuffed chair to sleep. I checked under the basket. The snake and the mouse had been pulled out from under the basket and discarded. The noisy egg isn't under there either. It was too large to pull through any of the holes but I can't find it anywhere. The shiny ball is the only thing remaining. The trick to surviving kittens is you need to be smarter than they are. Wonder where they put that egg?
