The Great Backyard Bird Count starts tomorrow (Friday) and goes through Monday. It's free and easy to participate. Too early for birds to be migrating back here so all I usually get to enter is a ruffed grouse, a couple of crows, and maybe some chickadees. However, I have my bird feeders out so I should be able to add a whole bunch of goldfinch and red poll to my list this year. Yesterday I saw a shrike and today a raven. I don't usually see these birds and you can bet they won't show themselves all during the count weekend. Birds taunting me - it's been a long winter.
