It was a dark and stormy night
First snow last night. I drove home in it from the library. It was all gone this morning. Another first on the walk this afternoon. Thought I'd scared some ducks in Gorgeous Gorge as I crested the hill but the splashes were caused by a pair of muskrats. Had me a little concerned - being homeless this late into the year might be deadly. I read up on muskrats and it turns out they don't stockpile food for winter. Their diet includes many of the bulbs of plants that grow in the gorge. As for a home, they will dig into the side of a hill if necessary and the topography there would make that pretty easy. I don't think Gorgeous Gorge would make a good permanent home but they might make it through the winter if need be.
