Spotted Tussock Moth larva
Indy and I did our first check of the bluebird houses since we reinstalled them last week. Some show a few strands of dried grass - a sign that a bird is interested in this site. One even had a fully formed nest. Will have to watch that one. Usually swallows and bluebirds have some feathers mixed in w/ their nest and this one was only made of dried grass. Will be able to tell what kind of bird when the eggs are laid. This week has been warmer than usual but next week's average temp will be about 20 degrees cooler. Should be interesting to find out if that slows down the nest building activity or if the birds keep going regardless of the weather.

Keith and I put a bluebird house up last summer and actually were successful in getting a couple of bluebirds to our box! Yea! I think it helped to provide mealworms and suet close to the home. :)
