I was shocked when I walked into the dairy this morning. There is a white board there listing all of the cows whose milk must be dumped. This can be because they have been treated w/ antibiotics for any reason or they have just had a calf. When I left on Friday, we had the list down to 4 cows. This morning it was over 11. The new 7 were all cows that had calved over the weekend. Carol, the dairy owner, insisted this was a good thing since the milking herd was down to 320 and she wanted it up around 330. I understand her point of view. To a milker, though, a dump cow is a dump cow. Lots of extra work.
